Reunion Portrait Elicits Fond Memories

photography cure for memoryHey….this is Jeanette here with two questions for you:

1 – How often do you flip through photo albums or rummage through a box of old photographs or reminisce while examining family reunion portraits hanging on the wall?

2 – Without photographs to jog your memory, how well would you remember details of get-togethers….or even remember the reunion at all?

Memories and details fade all too quickly as we age but thankfully, there is a modern “cure” for a bad memory. Photographs. And those reunion portraits are the ones that elicit such fond memories.

The Best Cure for a Bad Memory

I was 6 years old when this reunion photo was taken. It was my grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary and my dad an his siblings had convened at their childhood home in East Tennessee. This image is the only photo I have of my dad with his parents and all of his siblings. My sweet dad is the handsome one with my little brother (and photo bomber) tugging on his hand.

family reunion portraits share with family

I only remember a few details of the event such as the decorated bakery cake (a rarity in those days), cousins everywhere, playing barefoot in the soft grass, swinging on the rope swing hanging from the tree, and the truckload of watermelon one uncle brought with him from Florida. Without this image, I wouldn’t even remember the event.

The clothing, the surroundings, and my cousin being added as one of the siblings says volumes and reminds me of many other family history details about each family member shown.

Leave a Record for Posterity

Photographs can preserve the magic and memories of family reunions and special events so they not only last your lifetime, but also extend into the lifetimes of your posterity.

So get that camera out, snap away, print those images, and have them available for viewing. Tell your children and grandchildren about those events and write down the details for your descendants. They will be ever so glad you did.
