Brigham…..Is that You?

One of the reasons Nauvoo residents love living here is the arrival of summer means the Nauvoo Pageant is just around the corner. We had the great experience of getting to know many of the pageant core cast members over the years. Among our most cherished friends are Brannon and Emily Killgo, who played Brigham and Mary Ann Young in the Pageant.  They also performed in “Our Story Goes On” where we learned that Brannon has a fantastic singing voice! We were totally blown away when he heard him sing. Wow!

Photographing the Killgos in and around Brigham Young’s house was a very sweet experience. Brannon, as you can see, looks so much like the Lion of the Lord. It was fun to see the looks on the faces of some of the tourists when “Brigham Young” came walking out of Brigham Young’s house!

Many hours and 15 Photoshop layers went into the “vintage” black and white image taken in front of the Nauvoo Temple. Notice the original Moroni atop the temple…tricky, eh?   I love this photo.  Also included are some of the images from past pageant seasons.

To Brannon and Emily: You guys are the best!  We have grown to love and admire you both as you served here in Nauvoo.  We will never forget how tender and sweet you are together.  Thank you for sharing your lives and talents with us here in Nauvoo.  We pray you will be back again next year.

One last note…your “first dance” was one of the highlights of all our experiences here in Nauvoo.  Thank you for sharing that with us.  God be with you ‘til we meet again.

Hugs!

Nauvoo Missionaries Mark 50th Wedding Anniversary

Getting to know the missionaries who serve here is one of the great pleasures of living in Nauvoo. We met this wonderful couple at the beginning of their 6-month mission and seemed to run into one another at every turn. During those brief interludes, we discovered this special couple to be highly talented, full of life and their never-ending smiles are contagious.

In today’s day and age, longevity in marriage has become a rarity, especially 50 years together. We were honored to be asked to capture this milestone in portrait.  Could there be a better place to celebrate a Golden Anniversary than being here in the City of Joseph serving Father in Heaven?

To Elder and Sister Bashaw: What a special couple you are! And what a special place to celebrate your 50th wedding anniversary. You have been an inspiration to us as we observed just how much you love one another after so many years together. We had the feeling from seeing you together that your love will continue to flourish throughout time and all eternity. Thanks for sharing with us such a milestone in your life’s journey together.

We already miss you in Nauvoo. Thanks for your service and here’s to many more happy years together. Happy Anniversary!!

Hugs!

Cool Morning + Cool Family = Fabulous Family Portraits {Part-1}

One cool (and early!) morning we met up with Justin and Beth and their ultra cool, elegant and awesomely handsome family in front of the Nauvoo Temple to capture their experience in beautiful Nauvoo.  What we ended up with were fabulous family memories! Justin, Beth, and kids showed up ready to smile, pose, and even ham it up a bit giving us perfect subjects to photograph.  They were so easy to shoot it felt like working with professional models.

Sporting the coolest colors and looking oh-so sharp, we ended up with too many great photos for just one blog post So we decided to split the session into two posts … here’s Part-1 … Stay tuned for Part-2 tomorrow!

A Red, White, and Blue Family Reunion

What do you have when you mix summer time and a holiday? The perfect recipe for family reunions. Select a destination like Historic Nauvoo and you have the ideal setting to capture unforgettable images of family get-togethers.

That’s what happened when Ray brought his family together from all around the country for a family reunion in old Nauvoo. Family photos began taking shape on the steps of the Nauvoo Temple then moved down the to the flats and Lucy Mack Smith’s yard where it was once again filled with the laughter and merriment of little children.

Decked out in festive red, white, and blue (with the littlest girls sporting stars and stripes), we had a blast getting to know the family, seeing their love for one another, and enjoying yet another fun-filled morning in old Nauvoo.

Aren’t cousins always the cutest……

….and yes, the boys loved climbing the tree for a photo.

The fun of listening to your voice echo…..

The oldest grand kids were cool……and got even cooler at a moment’s notice.

A relaxing mother-daughter moment……

We lost them when the horse drawn wagon went by……

To Ray and family: What a wonderful family you have. We had so much fun working with you….actually it didn’t even feel like work! Thanks for letting us be part of the family for a short while and enjoying your laughter, love, and zest for life.

All the Best!
